D'Ambrosia and Ferrigno Reach Doubles Semifinals at PSAC Championships

BLOOMSBURG - East Stroudsburg University sophomores Katie D'Ambrosia and Jamie Ferrigno won two matches to advance to the doubles semifinals at the PSAC individual championships this weekend at Bloomsburg University.

The Warriors' top tandem earned a pair of hard-fought victories, defeating Maria Kostaris and Claire Afrassiabian of West Chester 8-6 and knocking off Jaclyn Metzger and Kassie Leuschel of Clarion 9-8 (7-5) on Saturday to reach the semifinals.

Sisters Kayla and Samantha Blackburn of Slippery Rock, the No. 2 seed, beat D'Ambrosia and Ferrigno 8-3 on Sunday morning. The sophomores were 6-3 in doubles this fall and have a 20-10 career record playing together.

Freshman Amanda Kaufman reached the quarterfinals in singles in her first PSAC championship event. She posted two dominating victories over players from Shippensburg, beating Jackie Kramer (6-1, 6-2) and Ali Horvath (6-0, 6-0) before falling to Samantha Blackburn, 6-2, 6-3.

D'Ambrosia won her first singles match 6-1, 6-1 against IUP's Alyssa Shubra and went out 6-0, 6-1 to Slippery Rock's Laura Handy.

The men's doubles team of Will Norris and Ryan Baxter won 8-3 over Matt Thomas and Jeff Rightnour of West Chester in their first match on Saturday. Mijo Cotic and Adam Marnik (Mercyhurst) moved into the finals with an 8-4 victory.

Norris, senior Rob Mikolon and freshman Mark Covert all dropped their first round matches in men's singles.
