MILLERSVILLE - Senior forward Lynda Hicks scored the game's only goal 18 seconds into the second half to send East Stroudsburg University to the PSAC women's soccer playoffs for the second straight season as the Warriors won 1-0 at Millersville on Tuesday.
Hicks' goal was her 14th of the season and her seventh game-winner for the Warriors (9-5-3, 5-4-2), who are 5-1-1 in conference play since opening with a rocky 0-3-1 start.
Senior goalkeeper Janine Turcio recorded her sixth shutout of the season and has 11 in her two years at ESU, tied for second in school history.
ESU and Kutztown are tied for third in the PSAC East standings with 17 points each, while Shippensburg is eliminated from postseason contention. Both schools have 17 points with one game remaining, both against Mansfield.
Kutztown travels to Mansfield on Thursday while the Warriors will make the trip on Saturday. ESU holds the tiebreaker with a win and a tie in their two meetings this season.
The PSAC quarterfinals will be played on Tuesday, Nov. 4 on the home field of the top two seeds. West Chester and Bloomsburg are tied for the conference's top spot with two games left.
ESU beat Bloomsburg 1-0 last season to reach the PSAC semifinals for the first time since 1998.
