LOCK HAVEN - The East Stroudsburg University women's volleyball season ended in the PSAC quarterfinals for the second time in three seasons as the Warriors fell 3-0 at Lock Haven on Tuesday night.
The Lady Eagles (27-4, 12-0 PSAC East) advance to the PSAC semifinals for the fifth time in six seasons. ESU's season ends with a 15-21 record, a five-win improvement from last season and the fourth 15-win campaign in the last five years.
Lock Haven won the first set 25-9 before ESU rallied in the second, pulling within 21-20. The Bald Eagles closed the set with a 25-22 win and won the final set 25-7 to move into the semifinals.
Four seniors played their final match in a Warriors uniform. All of them will leave a mark on the program, led by middle blocker Caitlin Kuhn, who will graduate with school records for single-season (127) and career (410) blocks. Kuhn is also seventh in ESU history with 806 career kills and was an All-PSAC East selection as a junior in 2006.
Kim Dormer, the starting libero the last two seasons, leaves with 1,207 career digs and 549 this year, both fifth in the school record book. Amilee Schillinger had a fine all-around season with 925 assists, 224 digs, 42 blocks and 58 kills in her only year as the starting setter, and outside hitter Linsey Sewalk contributed 109 kills and 38 blocks as a senior.
Sophomore outside hitters Alyson Stark and Brianne Bachman led the Warriors in kills this season, with 307 for Stark and 224 for Bachman. Stark just missed the single-season top 10 and will enter her junior year with 532 career kills. She had eight kills against Lock Haven, finishing the season with 12 straight matches with at least eight kills.
The Warriors will return four starters for the 2009 season - Stark, Bachman, sophomore outside hitter Emily Detter and freshman middle blocker Heather Paulus.
