SHIPPENSBURG - Senior forward
Jackie Yandrisevits reached 25 points and 10 rebounds for the second time in her career, with 27 points and 11 boards, but the University of the District of Columbia topped East Stroudsburg University 69-50 in the Warriors' second game of the season on Sunday at Shippensburg.
Sophomore forward Rachel Grimes added a career-high 11 points, all in the first half, and was 5-of-7 from the floor for the Warriors.
Yandrisevits shot 10-for-17 and also contributed three assists and three steals. She had 12 points and six rebounds in a 74-60 loss to Charleston (W.V.) on Saturday and was named to the All-Tournament team with 19.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in the first two games this season.
Senior guard Keri Cahill had six assists and five rebounds after handing out five assists against Charleston.
ESU trailed for only 20 seconds in the first half and led by as many as 11 points while shooting 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from the field. The Warriors were ahead 31-21 after a jumper by Yandrisevits with 1:21 left in the half, but UDC closed with an 8-2 run to pull within 33-29 at the break.
UDC's Nicole Cooper hit a three-pointer 10 seconds into the first half, and the Firebirds took the lead for good a minute later. An 8-0 run gave them breathing room, and they continued to build the advantage while holding ESU to 20 percent shooting (6-of-30) in the second half.
Lillian McGill had 14 points and 13 rebounds, LaQuanda Brandon scored 14 points and Cooper added 11 for UDC. The Firebirds were 21-8 last season and received votes in this year's ESPN Division II preseason coaches poll.
The Warriors will get back on the floor on Thursday with a trip to the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia for a 6 p.m. tip, followed by the men's game at 8 p.m.
