Box Score

ERIE - Sophomore Lindsay Foder's goal, which tied the game at 1-1, was the only scoring of the second half and overtime before IUP outlasted East Stroudsburg University 9-8 in penalty kicks to advance to the PSAC women's soccer championship game on Friday afternoon at Mercyhurst College.

The Warriors (11-5-4) bow out in the PSAC semifinals for the second straight year but still have an opportunity to play in the postseason. The NCAA tournament field will be announced on Monday at 3 p.m. on ncaasports.com.

Foder scored her eighth goal of the season on an assist from senior forward Lynda Hicks, the Warriors' leading scorer with 17 goals this year. Hicks played a ball down the middle, Foder touched it to the right and beat IUP goalkeeper Kelly Brennan to knot the game at 1-1 in the 59th minute.

The Crimson Hawks (13-8-1) scored 2:37 before halftime to take a 1-0 lead when Kyra Hricik knocked in a rebound off a shot by Paige Virgara.

Both teams made their first eight penalty shots - the first five in order, and the final three in sudden victory - before IUP keeper April Husberger made a save and Allison Keller hit the game-winner.

IUP had 23 shots in the game, 13 in the first half, before the Warriors controlled most of the final 65 minutes. ESU had 16 of its 22 shots after halftime, including four shots in the second overtime period. Senior goalkeeper Janine Turcio made 10 saves in goal.

ESU (11-5-4) played in the PSAC semifinals in consecutive years for the first time since 1997 and 1998. The Warriors won their quarterfinal game 2-1 at Bloomsburg and are 6-4-1 all-time in the PSAC playoffs after Friday's tie.
