GREENSBURG - East Stroudsburg University placed five players in double figures, but Katie Lintner scored 30 points and Seton Hill pulled away for an 82-72 win in the Warriors' final game of 2008 on Wednesday night in Greensburg, Pa.
Junior forward DeAnna Rayam, sophomore forward Rachel Grimes and sophomore guard Kristen Murray all scored 13 points each, senior guard Keri Cahill had a season-high with 12 and ESU (5-4) had five double-figure scorers for the first time since February 2007.
Senior forward Jackie Yandrisevits had 10 points, her 22nd consecutive game in double figures, and went over 1,400 points for her career. Cahill also had four assists for the seventh time in the first nine games.
Lintner led a Seton Hill attack that also got 17 points from Orit Farchi and 15 points from Jordan Burkes. The Griffins (3-3) were 8-of-19 from the three-point line and Lintner was 8-for-11 from the field and 13-for-16 at the foul line on her way to her game-high 30 points.
ESU opened a quick 9-4 lead, as Yandrisevits had two buckets and assisted on a three-pointer by Cahill, and the Warriors used a 13-2 run midway through the opening half to take a 29-19 lead. Seton Hill rallied and went ahead 34-33, but Murray made two free throws to close the half and put ESU up by one.
The score was tied at 41-all with just over 16 minutes left before Seton Hill went on a 9-1 run to break the game open. The Warriors narrowed a 15-point deficit to seven points late in the second half, sparked by three-pointers by Cahill and Murray and two baskets by Grimes. A layup by freshman guard Becky Hayter made the score 71-64 at the 3:30 mark, but Lintner and Burkes responded and the Griffins maintained their advantage.
ESU is off for the Christmas holiday and returns to action on Jan. 3 and 4 with the only PSAC crossover trip of the season. The Warriors will ring in 2009 with games at Clarion on Saturday and Gannon on Sunday.
