GREENSBORO, N.C. - Redshirt seniors Matt Swallow (133) and Scott Heckman (149), redshirt sophomore Jeff Jacobs (165) and redshirt junior Shane Mallory (197) all advanced to the round of 16, and Jacobs and fellow 165-pounder Thad Frick are still alive in the wrestlebacks for East Stroudsburg University at the Southern Scuffle at UNC Greensboro.

Jacobs won his first two bouts before falling a match before the quarterfinals. Jacobs pinned David Pelsang (Gardner-Webb) in 4:15 and then posted an 8-0 major decision over Thomas Jasterzbski (Davidson). Mack Lewnes of Cornell, the top seed at 165, handed Jacobs a 12-4 setback to send him into the consolation bracket. He topped Virginia's Beau Fisher 10-4 in the fourth round of wrestlebacks.

Frick, a redshirt freshman, opened his career at ESU with a strong performance at 165 pounds. Frick dropped a narrow 6-5 decision to Edinboro's Jarrod King, the No. 2 seed and the 2008 PSAC champion, in his first match for the Warriors and then responded with a 15-7 major decision of Princeton's Mike Alvarez in his first consolation bout. He advanced to the next round with a medical forfeit, and would face Jacobs if both win their first two matches on Tuesday morning.

Mallory decisioned Duke's Dan Tulley 6-4 and earned a 15-4 major decision over Colin Ely of Franklin & Marshall for his two victories. He bowed out to the top seed in his weight class, Cayle Byres of George Mason, with a 14-6 major decision and then dropped a 6-3 decision to Chris Immarino of Ohio.

Heckman had an easier time moving into the round of 16, advancing when Louis Johnson (Old Dominion) was disqualified. Heckman fell 8-4 to Nick Stabile (North Carolina), the fifth seed, and exited the Scuffle with a medical forfeit before his bout with Austin Reece (Gardner Webb).
