Marauders Survive Late Run, Slip by Warriors 65-61

EAST STROUDSBURG - Millersville withstood a 15-2 ESU run over the final seven minutes and stayed perfect in the PSAC East with a 65-61 win over the Warriors in women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Gladine St. Julien scored 22 points, Kari Cover had 12 points and three other players scored eight points each for Millersville, which improves to 21-4 overall and 10-0 in the conference.

Jackie Yandrisevits (14), Monika Fogelsanger (12) and DeAnna Rayam (10) were all in double figures for ESU (10-14, 4-6).

The Warriors remain a game ahead of Kutztown (11-15, 4-7) in the loss column in the race for the fourth playoff spot and travel to Kutztown for the season finale for both teams next Saturday. ESU hosts Mansfield (6-19, 1-9) on Senior Night on Wednesday.

Yandrisevits scored the first seven points of the game for the Warriors, who opened up an 11-4 lead in the first four minutes. Millersville knocked down three three-pointers in a 17-3 run to a seven-point advantage with seven minutes to go in the period, and led 34-27 at the break.

The Marauders built their lead to as many as 16 points on two occasions, and were ahead 61-46 with 7:23 left before ESU began its run to close the game.

Yandrisevits scored six points in the stretch, starting the run with a jumper and closing it with four consecutive free throws to bring the Warriors within 63-61 with 1:37 left. Senior guard Sheila Gallagher also contributed with a three-pointer, a block, an assist and a rebound, and senior forward Monika Fogelsanger scored four points early in the spurt.

Millersville turned the ball over on three of its four possessions in the final two minutes before sealing the victory on a jumper by Jenna Craig for her only field goal of the game with 12 seconds left. Craig had a game-high 12 rebounds in the contest.

Fogelsanger and Gallagher will be honored before the tip-off of Wednesday's game, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be televised with same-night coverage on Blue Ridge TV-13.
