CATAWBA, N.C. - Junior catcher Amanda Feist hit her third home run of the young season, but East Stroudsburg University ended its season-opening trip to North Carolina with a 3-2 extra-inning loss to Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) on Sunday morning.
Feist gave the Warriors a 2-0 lead with her home run in the third inning after freshman Jamie Mingis drew a walk. Lincoln Memorial tied the game at 2-2 with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning, and then won the game in the eighth.
The Railsplitters started the inning with a runner on second base using the international tiebreaker, and the Warriors mishandled a sacrifice bunt to put runners at the corners. Lincoln Memorial used a double steal to push the go-ahead run across the plate, and held ESU scoreless in the bottom of the inning to win it.
Senior pitcher Kristen Halvorsen threw the first four innings and was relieved by junior Jen Bensinger, who went the rest of the way and didn't allow an earned run in four innings of work.
The Warriors went 3-2 this weekend while playing teams from Indiana, North Carolina, West Virginia and Tennessee. They will be back in action next week with a trip to Osceola, Fla. for 10 games over spring break at the Rebel Spring Games.
