EAST STROUDSBURG - Pole vaulters Matt Gallup and Kristen Morby set school records and senior Iuri Pinto reached the provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Division II outdoor championships in the 1500m run to highlight the weekend for the East Stroudsburg University track and field program.

The Warriors sent athletes to compete against a top field of Division I schools, including Patriot League and Ivy League institutions, at the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell, and another handful of competitors to the Golden Rams Invitational at West Chester.

Gallup set the indoor school record earlier this year at 15-9 and broke the 18-year old outdoor record with a height of 16-2 3/4 at Bucknell to win the event by nearly a foot.

Morby cleared 10-6 to set a new ESU record and finished tied for sixth in the women's field.

Pinto ran his provisional qualifying time of 3:51.29 in the fastest heat of the men's 1500m invitational to place 11th overall and second among Division II competitors.

Several other Warriors turned in standout performances at Bucknell, including three athletes who placed second in their events: freshman Bill Buis (javelin - 190-0 1/4), sophomore Drew Miller (triple jump - 47-10 3/4) and freshman Lynn Mayer (high jump - 5-7). Miller was also 10th in the long jump and Mayer placed 11th in the triple jump.

Sophomore Trina Carito was third in the heptathlon with 4,254 points. She placed in the top five in five of the seven events and was second in both the javelin (101-0) and the 800m run (2:29.87).

The women's 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams both finished third. Juniors Katherine Doyle and Amilee Schillinger and freshman Jasmine Johnson ran on both relays, while freshman Nashanti Iglesias ran the anchor leg of the 100 and freshman Brittiny Mackey was part of the 400 squad.

The men's 4x400 relay team of senior Tony Prudente and sophomores Chris Reddick, Greg Pammer and John Wekselman also finished third for the Warriors.

Doyle was fifth in the women's 400m in 58.54 seconds and Reddick (5th, 21.77) and sophomore Andrew McCloskey (7th, 21.91) were both in the top 10 on the men's side.

Brittany Knowles and Mackey, both freshmen, were seventh and ninth in the women's 100m hurdles.

Sophomore Paul Wagner competed in three field events and was fourth in the hammer (171-8 1/2) and seventh in the discus (152-2 3/4). Junior Ryan Kramer tied for fifth in the high jump at 6-4 1/4.

Four ESU athletes won their events at West Chester - senior Lori Johanson in the 10000m (39:50.94), junior Kara Parrillo in the 400m hurdles (1:08.66), freshman Danielle Laws in the discus (124-2 1/4) and sophomore Tom Sutor in the men's hammer (145-3).

Freshman Allison Cardullo was second in the women's javelin at 115-3 and sophomore Kenny Cardullo scored 5,616 points to finish fourth in his first competition in the decathlon this season.

ESU will host its second meet of the outdoor season this weekend with the third annual All-American Invitational on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
