EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior Michelle Meyers hit a solo home run, the first of her career, in the bottom of the eighth inning to give East Stroudsburg University a 2-1 win over Bloomsburg in the first game of a PSAC softball doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Zimbar Field.

The Huskies won game two 8-0 as Sheelin Fisher threw a five-hitter with 11 strikeouts, and shortstop Tara Reed went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in.

Bloomsburg (34-7, 9-5) struck first in the opener, plating a run in the second inning, but wouldn't score again against ESU senior Kristen Halvorsen, who allowed just one hit over the final six innings to keep the Huskies at bay.

ESU (12-25, 6-10) tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth inning sparked by a leadoff double by senior 1B Ali Hale. Pinch runner Alicea Ashe moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore 2B Briana Malachowski and scored when senior 3B Candice Pastor reached on a fielders choice.

Both teams put runners in scoring position in the seventh before the game went into extra innings. Halvorsen shut down the Huskies in the eighth, and Meyers hit her first career home run with two outs to end the game and hand Bloomsburg its seventh loss of the season.

Bloomsburg scored five runs in the third inning in the nightcap, knocking Halvorsen out of the circle after she threw two perfect frames to start the game. The Huskies sent 10 batters to the plate and Reed broke the inning open with a two-run single.

ESU returns to action on Friday with a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader against West Chester.
