Fretz, Maniscalco Lead Warriors Lacrosse Past IUP, 17-4

EAST STROUDSBURG - Seniors Katie Fretz and Renee Maniscalco scored five goals each to lead East Stroudsburg University to a 17-4 win over IUP in PSAC lacrosse on Wednesday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

The seniors, who both scored their 100th career goals this season, led an attack that helped ESU to an 11-2 lead in the first half and maintained at least a 10 goal lead throughout the second half.

The Warriors improve to 9-5 on the season and 6-5 in the PSAC with three games remaining as they look for their first conference tournament appearance since 2000.

Fretz opened the scoring on an assist from Maniscalco 3:52 into the game, and Maniscalco scored her first goal just over two minutes later as the Warriors jumped out to a 5-0 lead.

IUP pulled within 6-2 with 11:24 left in the first half before ESU scored eight straight goals, including four from Maniscalco, over the next 20 minutes.

Molly O'Hara had two goals and Christine Bradley, Katie Cook, Christina Mongiori, Lindsey Moyer and Jamie Wesztergom also scored for the Warriors.

Junior goalkeeper Kirstin Mayberry made eight saves for ESU, while Katie Lee had 19 saves on 44 shots for IUP.

ESU hosts Millersville on Monday, April 21 and Shippensburg on Thursday, April 24, both at 4 p.m., to close its home schedule. Both schools still have an opportunity to qualify for the PSAC tournament later this month.
