Box Scores - W 6-2, L 7-1

KUTZTOWN - Senior Kristen Halvorsen went the distance in the circle and freshman Brittany Racek was 3-for-4, including a two-run single in a 6-2 victory in the opener, to lead East Stroudsburg University to a doubleheader split at Kutztown on Wednesday.

Halvorsen scattered six hits and the Warriors (7-18, 1-5) scored three runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead over the Golden Bears, who entered with a 27-5 record and 4-0 mark in the PSAC East.

Senior 3B Candice Pastor singled and sophomore OF Kara Darcey walked to start the inning, and senior SS Laura Snyder reached on a sacrifice bunt to load the bases. Freshman pinch runner Alicea Ashe scored on a ground out by sophomore 2B Briana Malachowski, and Racek drilled a two-out single that scored two runs and put ESU ahead 4-1.

The Warriors added two more runs in the fifth, as freshman OF Jamie Mingis and Pastor both had base hits, Snyder doubled to bring Mingis home, and Pastor later scored on a passed ball.

Kutztown cut the lead to 6-2 and loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but Halvorsen got Krista Cameron to pop up to Malachowski at second to end the game.

Kutztown won the second game 7-1, as Monica Glomb threw all seven innings and struck out nine, and Ashley Fitzgerald belted two home runs to give her 10 on the season. The Golden Bears led 3-0 through three innings before putting up four runs in the fifth, including Fitzgerald's three-run homer.

Malachowski went deep to put the Warriors on the board in the sixth. Junior Jen Bensinger got the start and was relieved by sophomore Jackie Battaglino in the fifth inning.

ESU travels to West Chester for a PSAC East match-up on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
