ATHENS, W.V. - Senior forward Lynda Hicks broke a scoreless tie 38 seconds into the second half and added a second goal midway through the period to lead East Stroudsburg University to a 3-0 win over Davis & Elkins in the women's soccer season opener on Friday at Concord University.

Hicks, a first team All-PSAC East selection last season while coming off the bench in all 20 games, made her first start since 2004 and provided the offense for the Warriors. She entered the season ranked fifth in school history with 20 career goals and picked up where she left off in 2007, when she was third in the conference with 11 goals.

Senior midfielder Janel Cleffi, who was named to the All-Region second team last year, assisted on both goals by Hicks.

Junior back Jessica Oliva scored her first career goal on a corner kick with an assist from senior forward Dena Shleifer in the 54th minute.

Senior Janine Turcio made five saves in goal for her sixth career shutout. Turcio was the goalkeeper on the All-PSAC East first team and was fifth in the conference with a 0.97 goals against average a year ago.

The Warriors will close their trip to West Virginia against Concord on Sunday at 12 p.m.
