EAST STROUDSBURG - National player of the year Jamie Vanartsdalen had a goal and an assist and Maggey Bloskey and Chelsea Due both scored two goals to lead No. 1 Bloomsburg to a 7-0 win over No. 5 East Stroudsburg University on Wednesday afternoon at Whitenight Field.
The defending national champion Huskies (5-0, 1-0) struck quickly, scoring two goals in the first two minutes, as Samantha Kropa and Vanartsdalen found the cage 15 seconds apart at 1:11 and 1:26 in the first half.
Bloomsburg didn't score again until Vanartsdalen assisted on Bloskey's first goal midway through the period, and Due added the first of her two goals before halftime.
Due (from Ashley Miller), Bloskey and Venessa Witman (penalty stroke) did the second-half scoring for Bloomsburg.
Senior Carolyn Kisling faced 25 shots and made 12 saves for the Warriors (4-2, 1-1) to match her career-high. Allison Ziants had five saves and Kelsey Kress was credited with a defensive save for Bloomsburg.
Huskies head coach Jan Hutchinson, a 1971 graduate of ESU, will be inducted into the ESU Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 4. Hutchinson holds the NCAA all-division record with 1,681 career victories as the field hockey and softball coach at Bloomsburg.
ESU was rewarded for its 4-0 start, moving from No. 9 to No. 5 in the NFHCA coaches poll on Tuesday. The Warriors will be on the road for their next four games, including three straight non-conference contests, beginning with a trip to Mansfield next Tuesday.
