MAHWAH, N.J. - Sophomores Ryan Baxter and Zach Ontell won three-set matches at the final two singles spots to lift East Stroudsburg University to a 5-4 win at Ramapo in men's tennis on Tuesday.
Both players won their first set before closing their matches in the third. Baxter defeated Paul Baluyut, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, at fifth singles and Ontell edged Matt Soos 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 in the sixth spot.
Sophomore Will Norris (6-2, 6-0) and freshman Mark Covert (6-3, 6-2) won easily at No. 1 and No.2 singles to give the Warriors victories in four of the six matches.
Ramapo won two of the three doubles contests, with senior Rob Mikolon and freshman Seth Heller posting an 8-5 win at No. 2. ESU dropped close 8-6 decisions in the other two matches.
