ESU Cross Country Opens Season at Van Cortland Park

BRONX, N.Y. - Freshman Greg Laraia and junior Niki Pasquarella were the Warriors' top finishers as East Stroudsburg University opened the 2008 cross country schedule at the Fordham Invite on Saturday at Van Cortland Park.

Laraia clocked a time of 28:03.6 to place 27th in a field of 176 runners for the ESU men, who were 10th of 16 teams overall. Junior Pat Carr was 41st in 28:31.7, and junior Kyle Weir, freshman Sean Norberg and sophomore Evan Daney rounded out the Warriors' top five.

Junior Niki Pasquarella and freshman Jonna Trexler paced the Warriors in the women's race as ESU finished 13th overall out of 20 teams. Pasquarella crossed the finish line with a time of 20:08.97 which earned her the 35th overall position out of 233 runners. Trexler was 47th with a time of 20:32.67, and senior Amanda Bradbury, freshman Amy Moratz, and freshman Leanne Pelak completed the top five finishers.

ESU will return to action next Saturday at the Lock Haven Invitational.
