EAST STROUDSBURG - Junior Briana Malachowski shot a 140 to finish in a tie for fifth place as East Stroudsburg University unveiled its women's golf program with its first-ever home invitational this weekend at Water Gap Country Club.
Michelle Spiegel earned medalist honors for Mercyhurst, the team champion, with a score of 130 in the 27-hole event. Kaitlyn Brody was one stroke back at 131 as the Lakers had the top four finishers and won by 34 strokes over West Chester. Clarion was third, followed by the host Warriors.
Malachowski, an infielder on the softball team during her first two years at ESU, placed third in the District 11 golf tournament as a senior at Bangor and was a member of two Colonial League championship teams.
ESU's other finishers in its first invitational were Stephanie Smith, Lauren Riggs, Kaley Rode, Megan Lopretto and Becky Benner.
