EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior forward
Jackie Yandrisevits had a season-high 30 points, 11 rebounds and set a career-high with seven assists as East Stroudsburg University opened a big first-half lead and held off Lock Haven for a 77-70 win in PSAC women's basketball crossover action on Saturday afternoon at Koehler Fieldhouse.
Yandrisevits scored 30 points for the third time in her career and recorded her ninth career double-double for the Warriors (7-5). Senior guard Keri Cahill had seven rebounds, five assists and five steals and three other players were in double figures - junior forward DeAnna Rayam (14), junior guard Mel Villano (10) and sophomore forward Rachel Grimes (10).
Lauren Kelshaw scored 18 of her 24 points and Casi Donelan netted 15 of her 17 after halftime for the Bald Eagles (3-9), which trailed 34-17 at intermission but put up 53 points in the second half. Donelan had a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Yandrisevits scored nine points as ESU opened the game with a 13-0 run. Lock Haven didn't get on the board until Kelshaw made a pair of free throws at the 14:51 mark before the Warriors scored the next five points to go ahead 18-2.
The Warriors continued their run over the next 10 minutes, with Rayam's three-pointer making the score 23-4, and Yandrisevits stretched it out to 32-10 with a layup with five minutes left in the half. Yandrisevits had 17 points at that point and was 8-of-12 from the field in the first half.
ESU led 34-17 at halftime and still maintained a 17-point advantage with just over 10 minutes to go before Kelshaw, Donelan and Katie Kendall (15 points) got hot and shot the Bald Eagles back into the contest. The Warriors were up 70-61 with 3:00 left and Lock Haven kept chipping into the lead, narrowing the margin to 74-70 with 25 seconds to play. Villano made two free throws and Yandrisevits finished her scoring at the line for the final seven-point margin.
The Warriors shot a season-best 49.1 percent from the field, led by Yandrisevits, who was 12-of-19 and made her only three-pointer. Rayam and junior center Alexa Detzi (eight points) were both 4-of-7 and Villano was 2-of-3 and added five boards and five assists.
Lock Haven shot 21 percent (6-of-29) in the first half before coming back with a 58 percent effort in the second half.
ESU returns to the floor on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Edinboro.
