14-0 Run Propels ESU Women's Basketball Past Bloomsburg, 66-57

EAST STROUDSBURG - Junior forward DeAnna Rayam scored 19 points and hit a three-pointer to spark a 14-0 run early in the second half as East Stroudsburg University earned its first PSAC East win of the season, 66-57, over visiting Bloomsburg on Wednesday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Rayam matched her career-high with eight rebounds and was 5-of-10 from the field, including three three-pointers, and 6-of-6 at the line. Senior forward Jackie Yandrisevits had 15 points and six boards for the Warriors, who improve to 8-8 on the season and 1-2 in the conference.

Kelsey Gallagher (17 points) and Colleen Kegerreis (16 points) led three Bloomsburg players in double figures. The Huskies (8-8 overall) lost their fifth straight game and fall to 0-3 in PSAC East play.

ESU led 30-26 after an evenly played first half, and Kegerreis opened the second-half scoring with a pair of free throws for Bloomsburg. The Warriors proceeded to score the next 14 points, going 6-of-6 from the field, beginning with Rayam's three-pointer that gave ESU a 33-28 lead.

Senior guard Keri Cahill (6 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists) followed with a jumper, junior center Alexa Detzi scored on an assist from Yandrisevits and Cahill drove the lane at the end of the shot clock to put the Warriors ahead 39-28. Yandrisevits made it a 12-0 run with a three-pointer, and sophomore guard Kristen Murray completed the stretch with a layup on a pass from Rayam.

The lead reached as many as 18 points (54-36) with 8:01 left after a steal and layup by freshman forward Becky Hayter before the Huskies got back in the game with an 11-0 spurt. Lauren Healy's jumper made the score 56-51 with 4:24 to play, but Yandrisevits scored at the four-minute mark to extend the lead and consecutive jumpers by Murray with just over two minutes to go sealed the victory.

ESU shot a season-best 55.6 percent from the field and was 12-of-15 at the free throw line to overcome 23 turnovers. The Warriors posted a plus-nine advantage on the boards, also a season-high.

Bloomsburg was also solid at the foul line, going 18-for-20, but shot just 36.2 percent from the field for the game.

The Warriors will look to even their PSAC East record at 2-2 with a 1 p.m. tip against Cheyney on Saturday at Koehler Fieldhouse.
