BETHLEHEM - Freshman Dan Johnson set the school record in the heptathlon, junior Matthew Gallup tied his own record in the pole vault, and freshman Devyn Emerich reached the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard in the high jump as East Stroudsburg University competed at the John Covert Classic at Lehigh on Friday and Saturday.

Johnson and junior Colin Feeney both broke Feeney's two-week old record in the heptathlon, finishing with 4,379 and 4,332 points, respectively. Gallup cleared 15-9 while competing in the men's elite pole vault, matching the height he cleared to set the ESU indoor record at the same meet last winter.

Emerich became the first ESU woman to reach an NCAA provisional mark this season when she cleared 5-7 to finish second in the high jump. Sophomore Lynn Mayer, an indoor and outdoor All-American last season, was fourth at 5-5, and junior Janelle Smith finished fifth in the event.

The ESU men were third in the meet and the women were tied for fourth. Both teams competed against a field of 12 schools, including five Division I schools in the men's field and six Division I schools on the women's side.

Senior Katherine Doyle was one of four Warriors to post victories. She won the 200m in 26.80 seconds, was third in the 60m dash in 8.07 and anchored the third-place 4x400m relay team.

Sophomore Jasmine Johnson was second in the 400m with a time of 59.98 seconds, and junior Niki Pasquarella had a strong fourth-place finish in the women's 3000m.

On the men's side, junior Rusty Smith (60m hurdles, 8.31), junior Paul Wagner (weight throw, 57-9) and junior Drew Miller (triple jump, 45-8 1/2) all won their events for ESU. Junior Jeff McClenton (22-4 1/2) and Miller (21-10 3/4) were second and third in the long jump.

Junior Andrew McCloskey finished second in the 60m dash (7.17) and junior Chris Reddick was third in the 200m (23.03).
