NEWARK, Del. - Juniors Drew Miller, Rusty Smith and Paul Wagner all recorded overall victories in their events, and four other Warriors had the top marks against Division II and III competition to lead East Stroudsburg University's performances at the Thomson Invite at the University of Delaware on Saturday.
The Warriors' trio of juniors has combined to win 14 individual championships in ESU's first five meets during the indoor season. Smith remained undefeated in the hurdles, running nearly a half-second faster than his competition in all divisions over 60 meters, with a time of 8.33 seconds. Wagner has also won all five meets he has entered in the weight throw and won with a toss of 58-8 3/4 on Saturday.
Miller won the triple jump for the fourth time this year, and his mark of 46-10 1/4 topped his previous best this season by more than a foot. Miller is the defending PSAC indoor and outdoor champion in the event.
Sophomore Brittiny Mackey clocked the fourth-fastest 60m hurdles time in school history (9.50 seconds) for the top time among Division II and III athletes. Sophomore Jonna Trexler won the 3000m by almost a half-minute in 11:08.85, and junior Emily Carothers had the top mark in the weight throw at 45-10 3/4.
On the men's side, junior Colin Feeney tied for the pole vault title with a height of 13-9 1/4. The Warriors also won the 4x400m and 4x800m relays.
Other top performances came from junior Jeff McClenton, who was fifth in the 200m (23.02) and sixth in the 60m dash (7.19), freshman Sam Janssen, who was fourth in the 800m (2:02.87), and sophomore Chris Zadroga, who was second in the 3000m (9:02.62).
Sophomore Jasmine Johnson was third in the 200m in 26.62 seconds, her top time of the season. Junior Janelle Smith was second in the high jump at 5-5. Juniors Emily Hollick and Niki Pasquarella were second in the 800m and mile run, respectively.
The Warriors will host the 10th Annual DeSchriver Invitational next Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at Koehler Fieldhouse.
