ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy won the first nine weight classes and picked up bonus points from three nationally-ranked wrestlers to defeat East Stroudsburg University 39-3 in an EIWA dual match on Saturday night at Halsey Field House.
Junior heavyweight Chris Birchler had ESU's only victory, a 9-4 decision over Mike Landis in the final bout of the night, to improve to 15-3 overall and 10-1 in duals this season. Birchler used a takedown late in the second period to build a 5-2 lead, and had another takedown with 20 seconds left in the match to secure the victory.
Redshirt junior Shane Mallory was dealt just his second loss in duals this year with a 13-5 major decision at the hands of Phillip Neese at 197 pounds. Mallory will take a 49-33 career record into the Warriors' first home dual of the season on Thursday at 7 p.m. against Delaware Valley.
No. 10 Joe Baker (133), No. 6 Bryce Saddoris (149) and No. 20 Luke Rebertus (174) combined to roll up 14 points in their three matches to lead the Midshipmen.
Thursday's match will be televised on Blue Ridge TV-13 on tape delay later that night at 10:30 p.m., and will be replayed at the same time on Friday.
