SHIPPENSBURG – Kristina Taylor scored the game's first goal and assisted on the second, both in the first half, to lead No. 2 Shippensburg past No. 3 East Stroudsburg University, 3-1, in a battled of top-ranked field hockey teams in Division II on Saturday.

Taylor scored her 17th goal of the season less than six minutes into the game and Sam Langone put Shippensburg (15-1) ahead 2-0 on an assist from Taylor at the 15:59 mark.

ESU (12-3) trimmed the deficit to 2-1 as junior forward Brittany Kocis found the cage for the sixth time this season 10 minutes into the second half, but the Raiders responded with a goal by Katie Pufnock three minutes later to keep the Warriors at bay.

Sophomore Maureen Ordnung had seven saves for ESU and Amanda Houser made six saves for Shippensburg.

The Warriors three losses this year have come against Shippensburg and Bloomsburg, who have been the top-ranked teams in Division II nearly the entire season. They will look to secure their first PSAC playoff berth since 2002 on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. game under the lights at Kutztown, which sits 2.5 games behind the ESU in the PSAC East standings.
