INDIANA – Junior forward Lindsay Foder scored two goals in the second half and also had an assist as East Stroudsburg University knocked off No. 23 IUP, 4-2, for its fifth straight win on Saturday in western Pennsylvania.
Foder's goals in the 59th and 63rd minutes, assisted by junior forward Kailyn Buckley and freshman back Breanne Ingargiola, helped the Warriors overcome an early 2-1 deficit less than seven minutes into the game.
IUP (9-3-1) scored 24 seconds into the game, with Melinda Lieb finding the net on a pass from Allison Keller. ESU replied less than two minutes later as sophomore midfielder Devon Miniscalco scored on an assist from freshman midfielder Marissa Spitler, but the Crimson Hawks went back ahead in the seventh minute when Lieb assisted on a goal by Heather Robbins.
Both teams had plenty of chances in the next 20 minutes before the Warriors tied the game at 2-2. Foder found junior forward Kailyn Buckley for the tying goal in the 26th minute, then gave ESU the lead 12 minutes into the second half with her third game-winning goal of the season and the fifth of her career.
Sophomore goalkeeper Melissa Myers had nine saves for the Warriors and Kelly Brennan made 10 saves for IUP. ESU led 20-15 in shots in the contest.
IUP was ranked No. 23 in Division II and No. 3 in the Atlantic Region in the NSCAA coaches poll and No. 2 in the region in last week's NCAA rankings. ESU entered the week ranked seventh in the region by the NCAA and eighth by the NSCAA.
ESU has scored 24 goals during its five-game winning streak and won its first meeting with IUP since falling to the Crimson Hawks 9-8 in penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie in last year's PSAC semifinal match-up.
Miniscalco (9 goals, 3 assists), Buckley (8-6), Foder (7-6) and Spitler (7-3) have been the key cogs in the Warriors' offense that leads the PSAC with more than three goals per game.
The Warriors have won at least 10 games in all three seasons under head coach Rob Berkowitz, including PSAC semifinal appearances in both of his first two years. They are back in action on Thursday with a 7 p.m. game vs. Holy Family at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
