KUTZTOWN – Kutztown scored a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes to beat visiting East Stroudsburg University, 3-1, in a match-up of teams battling for the second playoff spot in the PSAC East field hockey standings on Tuesday night.
The Warriors (12-4, 5-2) can secure the final playoff spot, their first since 2002, with a win on Friday when they host three-time defending national champion Bloomsburg (14-1, 5-1) at Whitenight Field.
Kutztown (10-6, 3-3) would take the final spot with a Bloomsburg win on Friday and victories over Millersville and C.W. Post in its final two conference games of the season thanks to its 2-1 win at Bloomsburg on Sept. 7.
Anne Waapu and Lauren Solley gave the Golden Bears a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals less than two minutes apart. Waapu scored the game's first goal on an assist from Abbey Sheeler 11:22 into the game, and Solley scored unassisted at 13:15 to extend the lead.
Sheeler put Kutztown ahead 3-0 with just over 12 minutes remaining in the game. ESU got on the board with 10:05 to play on the second goal of the season by junior midfielder

Maureen Ordnung was heavily tested in the second half, making all eight of her saves in the final 35 minutes, as the Golden Bears held a 12-2 advantage in shots after intermission and outshot the Warriors by a 17-9 margin for the game.
Friday's match-up vs. No. 1 Bloomsburg begins at 4 p.m. at Whitenight Field. The Huskies own the all-time series, 37-4, including a 2-1 win at home on Sept. 22.
