LOCK HAVEN – The East Stroudsburg University cross country program returned to competition on Friday after a three-week break with a trip to central Pennsylvania to run against several of the region's top Division I programs.

The Penn State National Meet, originally scheduled to be contested in State College, was moved to Lock Haven's West Branch course due to inclement weather.

The Warriors were led by freshmen Frank Fezza and Mike Pereira on the men's side and freshman Rose Mascoli and senior Niki Pasquarella in the women's meet. Both classes scored the top seven finishers for each team.

Fezza finished 34th out of 130 runners to lead ESU to ninth place in a field of 13 schools, and second among the four PSAC schools that competed. Fezza ran a time of 26:05 on the 8K course, followed by Pereira (48th, 26:24), sophomore Greg Laraia (58th, 26:37), freshman Amr Aldeen (79th, 26:58) and freshman Jim Romano (84th, 27:12).

Mascoli finished in 23:15 to place 106th of 202 in a heavy Division I field, as the top 11 teams (out of 18) compete in the nation's highest classification. Pasquarella was 114th in 23:23, and the Warriors finished 17th overall and fourth out of the five Division II schools.

Cornell won the men's team title, followed by Cortland State, Yale and Lock Haven. LHU alumnus Ryan Blood was the top men's runner with a time of 24:58 on his home course.

West Virginia took the women's title, outpointing Penn State and Providence. Shippensburg sophomore Neely Spence edged WVU's Keri Bland by one second (20:21) for the women's individual title.
