EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University freshmen
Frank Fezza and
Rose Mascoli have been named the PSAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Athletes of the Week after setting freshmen records for the Warriors at the Don Cathcart Invitational on Saturday.
Fezza (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) won the men's race with a time of 25:34 to lead the Warriors to the team championship at the 8K course in Salisbury, Md. ESU placed six runners in the top nine while competing in a field of 11 schools and 107 athletes. He was also the Warriors' top finisher at the season-opening Fordham Invitational two weeks ago.
Mascoli (Lebanon/Lebanon Catholic) ran a time of 22:22 on the 6K course at Winter Place Park to finish second in a field of 108 runners, and ESU was second of 12 schools. Mascoli has been the Warriors' top runner in each of the first three meets this season, finishing third at the Mountaineer Invitational at Mansfield and 22nd against a strong field at Fordham.
ESU's previous freshmen records at the course were set by Darryl Brown (26:48) in 2000 and Jackie Young (23:01) in 2005. Fezza broke the men's record by more than a minute, while Mascoli took 39 seconds off the old mark.
The Warriors are away from competition for the next two weekends and return to action on Friday, Oct. 16 at Penn State.
