BLOOMSBURG - Junior forward DeAnna Rayam scored 12 of her 14 points in the first half to help East Stroudsburg University build a 22-point lead, and the Warriors coasted to a 70-58 win at Bloomsburg on Wednesday night in PSAC East action.
Senior forward Jackie Yandrisevits had 15 points and eight rebounds and moved into third on the Warriors' career scoring list, passing Tonia Lloyd, who scored 1,675 points in her four years at ESU.
Senior guard Keri Cahill tied her career-high with 14 points and played in her 100th career game for the Warriors. She is three assists away from entering ESU's career top 10 and also had four rebounds, two steals and a block against the Huskies.
Cahill hit a three-pointer, then had a steal and layup less than 10 seconds later as the Warriors opened the game on a 17-4 run and led by double figures the rest of the way.
The lead was 26-13 with 7:00 left in the first half when Rayam ignited a quick 9-0 run with a three-pointer, assisted on a bucket by freshman guard Jennifer Scherer, and had a layup after a Bloomsburg turnover. Junior guard Mel Villano had a steal and layup to push the margin to 35-13, and ESU held a comfortable 38-23 lead at halftime.
The Warriors (10-12, 3-6) embarked on another run two minutes into the second half, this time scoring eight straight points, and a layup by Yandrisevits after two baskets by sophomore guard Kristen Murray made the score 50-29 at the 15-minute mark.
Bloomsburg managed to make it a 10-point game a couple of times in the final eight minutes, but ESU maintained its double-figure lead down the stretch. The Warriors were 17-for-23 from the foul line in the second half, as Cahill went 9-for-12 and Yandrisevits was 5-for-5. The Huskies lost their 11th straight game after opening with an 8-3 record and fell to 0-9 in the PSAC East.
Murray had nine points, just missing her seventh double-figure game off the bench this season, and junior center Alexa Detzi scored eight points and tied her season-high with eight rebounds.
Colleen Kegerreis led Bloomsburg with 14 points, but had just five rebounds in 38 minutes after averaging 9.4 rebounds per game coming into the contest. ESU held a 33-26 advantage on the glass, just the sixth time it has outrebounded its opponent this season.
ESU returns home to host Shippensburg on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Koehler Fieldhouse. The game will be broadcast live on Blue Ridge TV-13 and replayed at 6 p.m.
