Box Score

EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior guard Keri Cahill had an offensive rebound and putback in the final minute to send the game into overtime, but Millersville scored the first five points of the extra session on its way to a 51-47 win over East Stroudsburg University in PSAC East women's basketball on Wednesday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.

A three-pointer by Cahill with just under 10 minutes left gave ESU (9-11, 2-5) a 40-35 lead before Millersville, the second-ranked defensive team in the PSAC, locked in and came back to tie the game at 41-41 on two free throws by Gladine St. Julien with 2:36 left in regulation. St. Julien led Millersville (16-4, 5-2) with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

St. Julien scored the next time down to put the Marauders ahead 43-41, but ESU got a defensive stop after a turnover and converted on Cahill's layup with 52 seconds remaining following a pair of offensive boards. St. Julien missed a jumper that would have given Millersville the lead, and ESU didn't get a clean shot off in the final 10 seconds to send the game to overtime.

St. Julien opened the scoring in the extra session with two free throws with 3:33 left, and hit two more at the line with 1:08 to play to give the Marauders a 48-43 edge.

Freshman forward Becky Hayter gave the Warriors a chance with a three-pointer off an inbounds play that made the score 48-46 with 47 seconds to go. Aiesha Bellamy made two free throws to extend Millersville's lead, and Jenna Philo was just 1-of-4 at the line at the end of the game but her final free throw with 12 seconds left made it a two-possession game.

In the first half, Millersville took an early 9-2 lead before the Warriors stormed back with a 17-4 run. Junior guard Mel Villano hit a three-pointer to get the run going and senior forward Jackie Yandrisevits scored six consecutive points in the stretch. Sophomore guard Kristen Murray took over from there, with a layup and back-to-back three-pointers, and ESU led 19-13 with 10 minutes left in the opening period.

The Warriors led 24-21 at the half, while Millersville held a 22-19 advantage in the second 20 minutes to take ESU into overtime for the second time this season. Millersville won despite shooting 25 percent (15-60) from the field, but forced 35 turnovers and went 8-of-12 at the foul line in overtime.

Yandrisevits scored 12 points, her 33rd consecutive and 87th career game in double figures, to move within 100 points of setting ESU's career scoring record with seven games left in the regular season. She has 1,633 points and is behind three players - Tonia Lloyd (1,675), Stacy Perryman (1,695) and Claudine Simard (1,733) - on the school scoring list. Yandrisevits entered the week ranked 15th in Division II with 20.1 points per game this season.

ESU opens the second half of PSAC East play with a trip to Kutztown on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start.
