EAST STROUDSBURG - Four East Stroudsburg University track and field athletes - Lynn Mayer (high jump), Drew Miller (triple jump), Matthew Gallup (pole vault) and Paul Wagner (weight throw) - set meet records at the 10th Annual DeSchriver Invitational on Saturday at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Wagner's throw of 61-4 1/4 also broke his own school record and was less than three inches off the record for an event held at ESU. He was also second in the shot put with a season-best mark of 48-8 3/4.

Mayer, a sophomore who earned multiple All-America honors last year, cleared 5-7 and became the second ESU women's high jumper to reach the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark in the event. Freshman Devyn Emerich, who qualified two weeks ago at Lehigh, was second at the DeSchriver with a height of 5-5.

Miller's mark of 47-2 1/2 in the triple jump was a season best and topped the previous record of 46-10 3/4 set by Jacob Merrill of Lock Haven in the second DeSchriver Invitational in 2001. Freshman Brandon Hillman finished second and also had his best mark of the year at 43-10 3/4.

Gallup was part of a four-way tie for the meet record at 15-0, which he reached last year, and went over at 15-6 on Saturday. He is already a provisional qualifier for next month's NCAA championships.

Four other ESU athletes won their events, and the Warriors took five of the six relays that were contested.

Sophomore Brittiny Mackey won the women's 55m hurdles in 8.84 seconds, and sophomore Brittany Knowles had the top time in the prelims and finished third in the finals. Sophomore Andrew McCloskey won the men's 200m (22.57), freshman Dan Johnson had a season-best in the high jump (6-7) and junior Jeff McClenton had the top mark in the long jump (22-3).

Two other Warriors were at the top of the sprint events but were held out of the finals. Junior Rusty Smith, an NCAA qualifier, had the top time in the prelims of the men's 55m hurdles by almost three-tenths of a second in 7.70 seconds, while senior Katherine Doyle was second in qualifying for the women's 55m dash at 7.44.

Doyle ran on both of the winning 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams. She was joined by Mackey, sophomore Jasmine Johnson and freshman Alyssa Rupp in the 4x200, and Mackey, Johnson and junior Emily Hollick in the 4x400.

Smith and junior Chris Reddick were both members of the men's 4x200 and 4x400 relays which won in impressive fashion. McClenton and McCloskey also contributed to the 4x200 group that ran a time of 1:30.88, just missing last year's meet record of 1:30.55. Johnson and sophomore Greg Pammer ran on the 4x400 team.

McClenton and McCloskey had the top two times in the 55m dash prelims, and McClenton finished second (6.58) and sophomore Asher Ashfield was fourth (6.70). McCloskey had difficulty in the blocks in the finals and was fifth after running a time of 6.64 in the first round.

The ESU men finished first and second in the Distance Medley Relay, where four freshmen, Sam Janssen, Ben Koch, Dylan Laders and Greg Laraia, just edged upperclassmen Frank Adragna, Dan Bowden, Pat Carr and Chris Zadroga by a half-second.

Sophomore Chris Zadroga (mile, 4:28.60) and junior Kyle Weir (5k, 15:40.84) both ran season-best times for the ESU men in the distance events, and Adragna had the Warriors' second-best time in the 1000 this season in 2:40.64.

The Warriors took four of the top eight spots in the women's weight throw. Junior Amanda Sines was second (48-6 1/4), junior Emily Carothers was third (46-4 1/4), and sophomores Jessica Sekely and Danielle Laws finished sixth and eighth. Sines was third in the shot put and Carothers was tied for fifth.
