KUTZTOWN - Senior forward Jackie Yandrisevits had 29 points, 12 rebounds and five steals, but Kutztown held off East Stroudsburg University for a 67-59 win in PSAC East women's basketball on Saturday at Keystone Hall.

Yandrisevits was one point off the season-high 30 she scored in a win over Lock Haven on January 10 and had her fourth double-double in the last five games, and her ninth of the season.

Rachel Wisemiller led Kutztown (16-5, 6-2) with 17 points and nine rebounds and scored eight straight points midway through the second half as the Golden Bears pulled away from a 42-42 tie. Chauntelle Schroeder and Katie Dovey were also in double figures with 16 and 13 points, respectively.

ESU (9-12, 2-6) pulled within five points with an 8-4 run in the final four minutes fueled by Yandrisevits and freshman forward Becky Hayter, who finished with a career-high eight points, four rebounds and five steals.

Yandrisevits had a steal and pitched ahead for a layup by Hayter and Hayter assisted on a jumper by Yandrisevits to make the score 56-49 with 3:30 left. After a pair of Kutztown free throws, Hayter had a layup and then a steal and scored at the other end to narrow the margin to 58-53 with just over 2:30 to play. Dovey made two free throws and freshman guard Jennifer Scherer cut the deficit to five for the final time with an offensive rebound and putback with 1:30 left.

Kutztown was 24-of-27 from the line and made its first 20 before Dovey missed one with 55 seconds to play. The Golden Bears missed two more times down the stretch, but Scherer had a three-pointer rattle out that would have made it a four-point game and the home team put the game away.

The Golden Bears opened the game with an 18-3 lead in the first 4:37, capped by one of Wisemiller's four three-pointers, but ESU came back behind an outstanding defensive effort to pull within 23-22 with 2:30 left in the half. The Warriors held Kutztown scoreless over an eight-minute stretch, forcing nine turnovers and an 0-for-9 effort from the field, and senior guard Keri Cahill hit a key three-pointer for ESU. Yandrisevits finished the comeback with seven of her 12 first-half points.

ESU scored the first five points of the second half to tie the game at 27-all, and used another 5-0 burst to tie it at 34-all on a three-pointer by Yandrisevits, who scored 11 straight points for the Warriors. The senior hit another three the next time down to give ESU its first lead since 3-2, then had an offensive rebound and layup and converted a three-point play to put her team ahead 42-40.

Schroeder scored for the Golden Bears on their next possession, and Wisemiller hit a three 30 seconds later to put them ahead for good.

ESU returns to the floor on Wednesday with a trip to PSAC East rival Bloomsburg for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
