Molly O'Hara scored three goals and sophomore
Morgan Knowles had two goals and three assists to lead East Stroudsburg University to a 14-5 win over Kutztown in the PSAC East women's lacrosse opener for both schools on Tuesday afternoon at Whitenight Field.
Kutztown took a 3-1 lead just under 10 minutes into the game before the Warriors stormed back, scoring eight straight goals to close the first half with a 9-3 lead.
O'Hara and sophomore Christine Bradley both scored two goals in the first half, with O'Hara's first score on an assist from Knowles tying the score at 3-3 with 17:47 on the clock. The rest of the half was all ESU, as freshman Jessica Curran gave the Warriors the lead on one of junior Sara Foley's three assists and freshman Laurin Albie netted her first collegiate goal a minute later.
The Warriors outscored Kutztown 5-2 in the second half and held a 42-30 advantage in shots for the game. Senior Kirstin Mayberry made 11 saves while allowing just four goals, and freshman Alexis Landau had three saves and gave up the Golden Bears' final tally.
O'Hara recorded her second hat trick of the season and the seventh of her career at ESU and Knowles, Bradley and Curran all scored two goals. Albie, Michelle Mangiaruga, Lindsey Moyer, Kelsey Pfautz and Jamie Wesztergom scored one goal each, and Mangiaruga and Wesztergom added two assists.
Rachel Mehaffey scored two goals and Erin Myers had 17 saves in goal for Kutztown.
ESU is back in action on Saturday with a 12 p.m. game at Georgian Court.
