WILMINGTON, Del. - Senior Jennifer Bensinger fired a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts in East Stroudsburg University's 3-0 win at Goldey-Beacom in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday at Nancy C. Sawin Field.

Bensinger, who threw five no-hitters during her high school career at Tamaqua, tossed her first career shutout at ESU. She walked five batters, got six fly ball outs and one groundout, and struck out the other 14 batters she faced.

She had nine strikeouts and one walk through the first five innings before walking the bases loaded in the sixth. She struck out Ashley Paige, Goldey-Beacom's clean-up hitter, to get out of the inning, then pitched around a one-out walk to strike out the side in the seventh to seal the no-hitter.

ESU scored once in the third, as sophomore OF Jamie Mingis singled, stole second and scored on an error, but didn't strike again until the top of the seventh after Bensinger got out of trouble.

Mingis walked to lead off the seventh and scored on an RBI single by junior OF Kara Darcey, who advanced to second on the throw. Senior 1B Kerri Jakobsen followed with a single that plated Darcey to put the Warriors ahead 3-0, and Bensinger did the rest in the circle.

In the second game, the Lightning scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings in a 3-2 win. ESU got on the board in the top of the fourth as Darcey singled to score senior C Amanda Feist. Darcey scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to pull the Warriors within 3-2 and ESU advanced the tying runner to second in the seventh inning but couldn't force the tie.

Darcey was 5-for-6 in the doubleheader, going 3-for-4 in the first game and 2-for-2 in the second. Jakobsen also had two hits in the opener and added another in the second game.

Freshman Jade Geddrie threw the first 3.2 innings for the Warriors and gave up all three runs. Junior Jackie Battaglino tossed 2.1 scoreless innings, struck out two and gave up two hits.

ESU is in action this weekend with five games over three days in a tournament at Glenville State (W.V.).
