Warriors Lacrosse Falls to No. 1 West Chester, 23-10

EAST STROUDSBURG - Jackie Baker scored five goals and Claire Grimwood had three goals and four assists as defending NCAA champion West Chester defeated East Stroudsburg University, 23-10, in PSAC East women's lacrosse on Monday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

Sophomore Michelle Mangiaruga had four goals and two assists for a career-high six points for the Warriors (3-4, 2-1). West Chester (5-0, 3-0) surrendered 10 goals for the first time this season after giving up 10 goals four times in 21 games on its way to the national title a year ago.

Nicole Haines opened up the scoring for West Chester 22 seconds into the contest before Mangiaruga responded 16 seconds later. The Warriors got a pair of unassisted goals from sophomore Christine Bradley and trailed 6-3 just over 13 minutes into the game before West Chester scored nine straight goals to take control.

The Warriors scored three times in the final two minutes of the first half, as sophomore Molly O'Hara and Bradley found the net on assists from Mangiaruga, and Mangiaruga converted a free position shot with 44 seconds left to make the halftime score 15-6.

Mangiaruga scored twice and sophomores Morgan Knowles and Christina Mongiori also had second-half goals for the Warriors. Mangiaruga has scored four goals in two straight games and tied O'Hara for the team lead with 18 goals, followed by Bradley (12) and Knowles (11).

ESU hosts Shippensburg in conference action at Whitenight Field on Thursday at 4 p.m.
