Box Scores - W 3-0 / L 9-0
MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Senior Jennifer Bensinger went the first six innings, junior Jackie Battaglino nailed down the save and senior C Amanda Feist provided the offense with a three-run homer in the sixth inning as East Stroudsburg University blanked Pfeiffer 3-0 in the first game of their doubleheader on Saturday morning.
Pfeiffer came back to take the second game 9-0, scoring eight runs over the final two innings. ESU ends its spring break trip with a 4-4 record, including a sweep of No. 19 Wingate on Thursday, and returns to action Wednesday with two games at Goldey Beacom.
Both teams managed five hits in the first game and Feist's one-out home run in the top of the sixth inning was the difference. Sophomore OF Jamie Mingis singled after sophomore SS Brittany Racek flew out to lead off the inning. Freshman 3B Rachel Gieringer was hit by a pitch to move Mingis into scoring position, and Feist cleared the bases with her second home run in as many days.
Bensinger retired the first eight batters she faced and gave up four hits in six innings of work. She issued her only two walks of the game in the bottom of the seventh and was relieved by Battaglino, who gave up a single to load the bases with nobody out before getting a double play and a ground out to end the game.
Ranzy York threw a five-hit shutout in the second game which was much closer than the 9-0 final score. The Falcons took a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly in the third inning, then put up three runs in the fifth and five in the sixth inning.
Kylee Nichols was 3-for-3 with four RBI and scored two runs for Pfeiffer and hit a three-run homer with two outs in the sixth to invoke the eight-run rule.
Racek and Feist led the offense during the Warriors' eight-game trip to North Carolina. Racek hit .357 and had team-highs with five runs and five runs batted in, and Feist hit .333, homered twice and drove in four runs. Bensinger and Battaglino were both 4-4 in the circle, and Battaglino recorded two saves.
