KUTZTOWN - Junior Marissa Tanner and freshman Angela Teri won their doubles match and posted victories at fifth and sixth singles, but East Stroudsburg University fell 5-3 to Kutztown in the first round of its first-ever PSAC women's tennis championship appearance on Tuesday afternoon.
The Warriors wrap up the 2008-09 season with a 10-10 record led by the performances of freshman Amanda Kaufman (9-4 at first singles, 14-9 overall) and sophomores Katie D'Ambrosia and Jamie Ferrigno.
D'Ambrosia finished the season with a 10-11 singles record between the first and second spots and Ferrigno went 13-6 at No. 3 singles. They also teamed up as ESU's top doubles pairing with a 10-5 overall record.
Rohini Das and Sabrina Arnaud knocked off D'Ambrosia and Ferrigno 8-4 at first doubles and also won their singles matches for Kutztown. Barbara Joerns and Nicole Devine took an 8-1 win over Kaufman and senior Sarah Deisher in the second doubles match.
Tanner and Teri beat Shir Suez and Tess Wright, 8-5, at third doubles, Tanner won 6-3, 6-3 over Wright at No. 5 singles and Teri defeated Suez 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6.
ESU went 4-4 against PSAC schools during the 2008-09 campaign, with wins over Shippensburg, Millersville, West Chester and Cheyney. Kutztown beat the Warriors 7-2 on April 5 in their first meeting of the season.
