ESU Women's Soccer Wins Season Opener, 3-1, vs. Mount Vernon Nazarene

EAST STROUDSBURG - Sophomores Devon Miniscalco and Rebecca Porcaro and freshman Marissa Spitler all scored their first career goals as East Stroudsburg University posted a 3-1 win over Mount Vernon Nazarene to kick off the 2009 season on Thursday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Miniscalco struck first for the Warriors, scoring 18:29 into the contest on an assist from junior forward Lindsay Foder, before Nikki Bruscino tied the game at 1-1 for the Cougars 10:39 into the second half. Foder is the Warriors' leading returning scorer with nine goals and seven assists.

Porcaro, playing in her fourth career game, found the net 10 minutes later off a pass from Spitler which stood up for the game-winning goal. Spitler added an insurance goal on a corner kick with five minutes remaining for the Warriors.

ESU held a 20-5 advantage in shots and 8-0 margin in corner kicks. Jenessa Loewen made nine saves for Mount Vernon Nazarene and sophomore Melissa Myers had one save in her first career start for the Warriors. The Cougars placed fifth in the National Christian College Athletic Association national tournament a year ago.

ESU, coming off consecutive 12-win seasons and PSAC semifinal appearances, hosts No. 25 C.W. Post on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Eiler-Martin Stadium in a match-up of two teams that were selected for the NCAA playoffs last fall. The Warriors' 4-0 win over West Virginia Wesleyan was the first postseason victory in school history.
