ESU Women's Volleyball Beats Bowie State, Shepherd to Improve to 4-0

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.V. - East Stroudsburg University improved to 4-0 in the women's volleyball season with a 3-0 win over Bowie State on Friday and a pair of 3-1 wins over host Shepherd on Saturday in West Virginia.

Junior libero Lindsey Lullo had 97 digs over the three matches, including 36 in both of the wins over Shepherd, to highlight the Warriors' defensive effort while juniors Brianne Bachman and Alyson Stark led the team offensively.

Stark had 15 kills and 17 digs in the first match against Shepherd on Saturday and 11 kills and 13 digs in the second match. Bachman had a team-high seven kills against Bowie State, contributed 15 kills and hit .483 in Saturday morning's match and also had seven kills in the second match.

Game scores against Shepherd were 25-14, 19-25, 25-1, 25-23 in the morning, and 25-22, 25-20, 22-25, 25-20 in the afternoon.

Freshman setter Cassie Willman combined for 71 assists in the two matches, including 39 in the morning session when the Warriors hit .205 as a team. Freshman Kiersten Noll had 13 kills and a .423 hitting percentage and Stark and Bachman had 15 kills each.

Freshman Katie O'Neill combined for 33 digs, 19 in the first match and 14 in the second, on Saturday.

ESU downed Bowie State 25-17, 25-11, 25-18 on Friday night behind Bachman's seven kills and five kills on a .625 hitting percentage by freshman Kristina Perri.

The Warriors are off until next weekend when they travel to Florida for three matches. They will play at St. Leo on Saturday and take on Grand Valley State and Eckerd on Sunday in a tournament that will be hosted by Eckerd College. Grand Valley State is ranked No. 4 in the AVCA preseason poll.
