ESU Men's Cross Country Starts Strong, Places Second at Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. – Freshman Frank Fezza and sophomore Greg Laraia finished 10th and 12th overall and led the East Stroudsburg University men's cross country team to a second-place finish at the season-opening Fordham Ram Invite on Saturday at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx.

Freshman Rose Mascoli had the top time for the ESU women's team, finishing 22nd in 19:15 over the 5k course, with sophomore Jonna Trexler placing 32nd and senior Niki Pasquarella in 42nd. The Warriors women were ninth in a field of 18 after finishing 13th in the same event last year.

Fezza crossed in 27:37 with Laraia four seconds behind. Freshmen Michael Pereira and Amr Aldeen both clocked a time of 27:51 and were 17th and 18th overall and junior Chris Zadroga completed the Warriors' top five in 32nd (28:15).

Sacred Heart won on the men's side with 64 points, followed by ESU (89) and Rutgers (94). The Scarlet Knights had the top two finishers but their third runner was behind Zadroga in 34th place.

ESU is back on the course next weekend at the Mountaineer Invitational at Mansfield, the site of the NCAA Regionals on November 7.
