EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior forwards Caitlin Brownley and Jessica Frantz both had two goals and an assist and East Stroudsburg University survived a late scoring spree by Mansfield for a 6-5 win that gave head coach Sandy Miller her 300th career win on Wednesday afternoon.

Miller, in her 26th season at ESU, also notched her 100th and 200th career victories against Mansfield and has a 300-202-10 record (.596) on the sidelines. She is the fourth Division II field hockey coach and 22nd in NCAA history to reach 300 career wins.

Miller has led ESU to nine appearances in the PSAC playoffs and four in the NCAA tournament. The Warriors made the PSAC championship game in 2001 and also advanced to the NCAA championship game that season. Other NCAA playoff appearances came in 1987, 1988 and 1990.

The Warriors (7-1) opened the scoring quickly on Wednesday afternoon as Frantz scored on a pass from Brownley just 1:36 into the game, and Frantz assisted on a penalty corner goal by junior forward Brittany Kocis to give ESU a 2-0 lead 16 minutes into the contest.

Mansfield's (2-5) Kristy Tutorow cut into the margin just over six minutes later, but sophomore midfielder Amanda McGuire pushed the lead back to 3-1 with an unassisted goal 1:16 before halftime.

Brownley, the Warriors' leading scorer, had her ninth and 10th goals of the season five minutes apart early in the second half to stretch the advantage to 5-1, and Frantz added her second goal of the game to make the score 6-2 with less than 20 minutes to play.

ESU maintained the four-goal lead until the six-minute mark when Alycia Pici and Jaime Purdy both scored for Mansfield within a minute to make it 6-4. Tutorow had her second goal for the Mounties with 1:46 remaining to narrow the margin to one, but ESU held on in the end.

Brownley has received two of the first three PSAC East Player of the Week awards this season and has 10 of her 21 career goals this fall. Frantz has scored two goals in each of the last two games and has five on the season.

The Warriors improve to 7-1 on the season with home games against Mercyhurst and IUP on the schedule this weekend. They are off to a 3-0 start in PSAC East play, which resumes on Sept. 22 at Bloomsburg, and are looking for their first PSAC playoff appearance since 2002.
