EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior forwards Caitlin Brownley and Jessica Frantz both scored multiple goals for the third straight game to lead No. 6 East Stroudsburg University to a 5-1 win over No. 7 Mercyhurst in non-conference field hockey on Saturday afternoon at Whitenight Field.
Brownley had her second hat trick in the last three games and Frantz had two goals and assisted on the other three goals for the Warriors, who improve to 8-1 on the season. Brownley (eight goals) and Frantz (six goals) have combined for 14 of ESU's 16 goals in the last three contests.
Brownley scored twice in the first half, in the sixth and 25 minutes, and Frantz found the cage in between to give ESU a 3-0 lead. Emily Warren put Mercyhurst on the board five minutes before halftime for a 3-1 score at intermission.
The Warriors scored quickly coming out of the half, with Frantz scoring on an assist from junior forward Brittany Kocis 1:41 into the period, and Brownley completed the scoring with her third goal of the game less than 10 minutes later.
Brownley has 13 goals and five assists this season and 10 goals and three assists in her last four games. Frantz has scored six of her seven goals in the last three contests, one short of her total at IUP last year when she was a second team All-American.
Sophomore Maureen Ordnung made six saves in goal for ESU and Ashley Wiskup had seven saves for Mercyhurst. The Warriors outshot the Lakers 18-10 and maintained an 11-6 edge in penalty corners.
ESU will go for its ninth win in the first 10 games when it hosts IUP on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Whitenight Field.
