EAST STROUDSBURG – Kelly Modes scored both Bloomsburg goals and had the game-winner with 15:25 left to lift the visiting Huskies over East Stroudsburg University in a match-up of PSAC East women's soccer playoff hopefuls on Tuesday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Modes opened the scoring on a well-played ball from Katie Walczuk 6:03 into the game, but ESU outshot the Huskies 12-2 in the first half and got the tying goal late in the period on a free kick by freshman midfielder Marissa Spitler, her sixth goal of the season, with 1:38 to go until the break.

Bloomsburg (3-4-1, 3-2-1) took advantage of a corner kick for its second goal, as Modes played the ball into the box and the Warriors were unable to clear, with the ball deflecting off a defender and in to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead.

ESU (5-4-1, 2-3-1) produced several scoring chances in the final 15 minutes, but Frances Nicoletti had 13 saves in goal for Bloomsburg on 24 shots and held on for the win.

Both schools entered the game tied for third in the PSAC East standings with seven points, with the top four teams earning playoff spots at the end of the season. The Warriors have knocked off the Huskies in the PSAC quarterfinals in each of the last two years.

ESU faces Lock Haven in a non-conference contest on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
