Frank Fezza and
Rose Mascoli both set East Stroudburg University freshmen records at the Don Cathcart Invitational and finished first and second, respectively, in their fields to lead the Warriors on Saturday at Winter Place Park.
Fezza ran a time of 25:34 to beat teammate
Greg Laraia (25:40), and the Warriors had six of the top nine finishers to win going away.
Mascoli's performance of 22:22 was second behind Ashley Aberl of John Carroll, which won the team championship 51-59 over the second-place Warriors.
In the men's race, junior
Chris Zadroga was fourth, freshman
Amr Aldeen placed sixth and senior
Kyle Weir and freshman Michael Pereira were eighth and ninth as the fourth through 10th-place runners were all within six seconds of each other over the 8K course.
Freshman
Corinne Fitzgerald was fifth for the ESU women in 22:30, eight seconds off Mascoli's pace. Senior
Niki Pasquarella finished seventh (22:38), sophomore
Jonna Trexler was ninth (22:51) and sophomore
Jenna Fisher was 43rd (25:11) to complete the Warriors' top five.
ESU is away from competition for the next two weekends and returns to action on Friday, Oct. 16 at Penn State.
