KUTZTOWN - Chauntelle Schroeder scored 17 points and Vivian Melvin had 15 to lead Kutztown past East Stroudsburg University, 85-52, in the PSAC East women's basketball opener for both schools on Wednesday night at Keystone Arena.

Senior forward DeAnna Rayam had 15 points and nine rebounds and sophomore forward Jennifer Scherer scored 11 points, including three three-pointers, for ESU (2-12, 0-1). Senior center Alexa Detzi added eight points to tie her season-high.

The Golden Bears (10-4, 1-0) also received nine points each from Meredith Starr, Rachel Wisemiller and Melissa McQuade. Schroeder had 10 rebounds, McQuade had nine boards and Wisemiller recorded six rebounds and eight assists.

ESU hosts Shippensburg on Saturday in its PSAC East home opener at 1 p.m. at Koehler Fieldhouse.
