Rutgers Posts 20-15 Win over ESU Wrestling

EAST STROUDSBURG – Joe Langel (125) and Dan Rinaldi (174) posted major decisions and Rutgers received a medical default at 133 to record a 20-15 win over East Stroudsburg University in non-conference wrestling on Monday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.

The Warriors won five matches, all by decision, against the Scarlet Knights (14-4-1), who are unbeaten in their last 10 duals. ESU is 7-6 on the season and is back in action next Monday at Division III power Lycoming College.

Rutgers jumped out to a 13-0 lead through three bouts, with Langel's 14-4 major decision, a medical default by Cullen Isenberg after redshirt sophomore Andrew Arnold was injured in the first period and a 9-5 decision from Trevor Melde over redshirt sophomore Adam Hluschak. Langel (20-5) and Melde (19-5) have both posted strong records this season for the Scarlet Knights.

Sophomore Eddie Stephenson put the Warriors on the board with a hard-fought 3-2 decision over Kellen Bradley at 149 pounds. Stephenson scored an escape with two seconds left in the second period and a takedown with seven seconds remaining in the match for his three points.

Redshirt sophomore Thad Frick (157) and redshirt junior Jeff Jacobs (165) followed with victories for ESU. Frick earned a 6-3 decision against Braden Turner and Jacobs had a 6-0 victory against Matt Rigoglioso. Jacobs also won by a 6-0 decision in Friday's dual win at American International and had a pin in the Warriors' victory at Boston University on Saturday to improve to 18-11 on the season, while Frick moves to 19-9.

Rutgers' Dan Rinaldi used two takedowns in the final 10 seconds to run his record to 21-5 on the year with a 12-4 major decision over freshman Devon Passman at 174.

Redshirt senior Shane Mallory is 18-6 on the season following a 5-1 decision over Jesse Boyden at 184 pounds. Lamar Brown posted a 6-3 decision for Rutgers over junior Ed Ebewo in the 197-pound match-up, and freshman Will Weaver won by an identical 6-3 score over Sean DeDeyn for the Warriors at 285.
