EAST STROUDSBURG – Mallory Moore had 19 points, 14 rebounds and eight steals and Mansfield overcame 39 turnovers in a 47-44 win over East Stroudsburg University in PSAC East women's basketball on Wednesday night.

Moore was 11-for-11 at the foul line, part of a 19-for-20 night for the Mounties (4-13, 1-4), who shot 14-for-40 (35 percent) for the game and were 0-for-12 from the three-point line. Nicole Pender added 10 points but also committed nine turnovers.

Redshirt sophomore forward Brittany McClain led ESU with a career-high 12 points and had 10 in the first half, including three three-pointers. Senior forward DeAnna Rayam added 11 points and senior center Alexa Detzi had eight points on 4-for-6 shooting.

The Warriors came up with 23 steals, including career-highs from senior guard Mel Villano (seven) and sophomore forward Jennifer Scherer (five). ESU had 24 turnovers and Mansfield recorded 13 steals, with Moore posting five of her eight steals in the first half.

ESU held a 25-24 lead at halftime and neither team scored for the first 4:49 of the second half until sophomore guard Cyara Woodridge scored to put the Warriors up by three. Mansfield put together a 13-3 spurt over the next five minutes to take a seven-point lead (37-30), its largest of the game, with just over 10 minutes left.

ESU came back with five straight points on a jumper by Villano and a three-point play by Rayam to make it a two-point game, and pulled within one (41-40) on a three-pointer by Rayam with 5:43 remaining.

Pender had a steal and layup a minute later and Moore made two free throws to put Mansfield ahead 45-40 at the 2:48 mark. Rayam scored for the Warriors the next time down to make it a one-possession game and ESU had the ball with a chance to pull within a point or tie the game on three occasions before Moore's jumper reestablished Mansfield's five-point margin with 52 seconds left.

ESU got back within three when Detzi scored on an assist from Rayam with 39 seconds to go and Meredith Hafter committed an offensive foul with 17 seconds remaining, but Villano's long three-pointer wouldn't go at the buzzer and Mansfield came away with the three-point conference road win.

The Warriors are back in action on Saturday when they host West Chester at 1 p.m. at Koehler Fieldhouse. The game will be part of the WBCA's “Pink Zone” event to raise funds and promote breast cancer awareness. ESU's players will wear pink t-shirts during warm-ups and t-shirts will be on sale at the game, with the proceeds benefitting the PA Breast Cancer Coalition.
