EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior forward Megan Keiser gave East Stroudsburg University a 1-0 lead in the first half, but No. 5-ranked California proved to be too much to overcome as the Vulcans remained unbeaten with a 2-1 win in PSAC women's soccer on Sunday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Keiser's goal in the 18th minute, her first of the year, was just the fourth allowed by California (12-0-1, 8-0-1) and put the Vulcans behind for just the second time all season.

Bethany Smyda tied the game at 1-1 in the 30th minute, then netted the game-winner in the 79th minute as California got off 10 shots in each half. Smyda, a freshman, has 12 of the Vulcans' 44 goals this season for the top-ranked team in the Atlantic Region.

Freshman Nicki Keiser made her first start in goal for the Warriors and made six saves. The younger Keiser made her first career appearance earlier in the week, making five saves without allowing a goal in the second half of a 2-0 loss at Shippensburg.

Paula Jackson, last week's PSAC Player of the Week, had five saves and California held a 20-9 advantage in shots. Jackson led the nation with a 0.19 goals against average entering the week and was coming off back-to-back 1-0 shutouts vs. Kutztown and Bloomsburg.

Senior forward Lindsay Foder assisted on Megan Keiser's goal, notching the 16th assist of her career to move into a tie for sixth in school history. Foder is also one of six players to score 20 career goals at ESU.

The Warriors (4-7-1, 3-7) were 4-1-1 at home entering the contest and have a 10-9 edge on the scoresheet at Eiler-Martin Stadium, compared to a 13-2 deficit away from home.

ESU's conference schedule continues next Saturday with a trip to IUP.
