EAST STROUDSBURG – Sophomore
Rose Mascoli ran a course-record time of 18:22.4 as East Stroudsburg University took the top four spots in the women's race, and the Warriors' men also took the team title at the Seventh Annual Nevins Invitational on Saturday morning.
Mascoli's time bested the previous course record of 18:56 which was set by Delaware Valley's Caitlin Dorgan last fall. She was followed by senior
Jonna Trexler (19:14.1), sophomore
Bridget McCarron (19:30.2) and freshman
Kim Lowry (19:31.6) to round out the top four.
ESU had eight of the top 13 finishers in a field of 79 athletes, and has won the Nevins Invitational women's title in six of the seven years the meet has been held.
On the men's side, sophomore
Amr Aldeen was third in 15:24.8, finishing behind Andrew Coelho (Adelphi) and Filippazzo Nicholas (Molloy). Coelho's time of 15:07.5 was a course record by 59 seconds, breaking the previous mark of 16:06 turned in by ESU alumnus Drew Nesbitt in 2008.
The Warriors edged La Salle, the 2009 team champion, by two points (44-46) to reclaim the title the squad has held for five of the first seven years at the Nevins Invite. Junior
Greg Laraia placed eighth and sophomores
Jared Wilson and
Mike Pereira and senior
Chris Zadroga were 10th through 12th.
Saturday's meet was the final regular season competition for the Warriors, who will travel to California (Pa.) for the PSAC Championships on Saturday, Nov. 6.
