KUTZTOWN – Senior forward Jessica Frantz's 28th goal of the season was the final blow in a back-and-forth game that saw visiting No. 3 East Stroudsburg University top No. 5 Kutztown, 3-2, in PSAC East field hockey on Tuesday night.

Frantz scored two goals – her eighth multi-goal game of a record-breaking season – and delivered her ninth game-winning goal of the year for ESU (14-2, 5-1) with less than 10 minutes to play.

Her first goal, assisted by sophomore midfielder Mallory Pope, gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead with 3:32 to play before halftime. Samantha Carberry scored the game-tying goal with 15 minutes left for the Golden Bears (8-6, 3-3) before Frantz delivered ESU's 14th victory of the season after a scramble in front of Kutztown goalkeeper Emily Falko.

The game's first two goals were scored five seconds apart – sophomore forward Lauren Ventrella scored at 15:08 for ESU, immediately followed by a goal by Kutztown's Abbey Sheeler at 15:13. Ventrella has scored her first four career goals in the Warriors' last six games.

Senior back Kayla Cilenti assisted on ESU's first and last goals, giving her six goals and five assists on the season. Junior goalkeeper Maureen Ordnung made two saves as ESU outshot Kutztown, 12-4.

Frantz has 62 points this season, breaking Ashley Kocis' single-season record of 59, and moved within one goal of Kocis' school record of 29 – both set in 2006. She also tied Karen Moliver for second in school history with 100 career points (42 goals, 16 assists), which she accomplished in two years after transferring to ESU from IUP prior to last season.

ESU holds a half-game lead on Bloomsburg (11-2, 4-1) for first place in the PSAC East entering Saturday's showdown at Whitenight Field. The Warriors won the first meeting, 3-2, on Oct. 2 at Bloomsburg.
